YSM Shopping

I think my weekly jogs to villages for the YSM will now be steady for the summer.  I am always amazed at the delightful items one can find, even after being the self proclaimed "Queen of Yard Sale shopping" for these last 40+ years of doing this.  Yesterday... another treasure in a 1943 edition sewing book.  I love the articles,  many still timely, the illustrations and photos delightful since they show fashion designs that were popular just before I was born... makes me wonder, did my Mom wear this or that?  And what I mostly found interesting is there is not one, no not one reference on sewing, fitting, nor making pants for women.  OMG... I don't even own a dress!  Well, I do have one summer and one winter dress for emergencies but I haven't had an emergency for at least four or five years and that was the wedding of my oldest Granddaughter where I found I had to wear a dress.  Which I hated, lol.  But, after reading the book I remembered that my generation of girls were not allowed to wear pants to school except for the end of the year field day.  And then this morning I had a rememberance of helping my Dad press his Levis.  He put his fists together up into the pant legs then spread them as wide as he could and my job was to pull the pants off his fists, which stretched  the denim and removed all the wrinkles.
But, to move on, here is some photos of my treasure!

The cover has sissors, spools of thread and other sewing stuff embossed on it.

Articles on tips for dressing properly!

Tips for adding embellishments... (see the french knot illustration for those who had a conversation with me about french knots recently, lol).

Mom and Me dresses... Not sure that would go over real big now...

And mixed media people... this looks like drawing on the printed page... love the ribbon and sissor graphic!

I hope you find a treasure this summer!

Love the photos in the sewing book. When I was in college, we were only allowed to wear pants if the temperatures were below 0 or some ridiculous number like that. When we went through rush for sororities, we wore white gloves!!! One of my first jobs was at an insurance company and I remember when they made a rule that allowed pants suits. I was one of the first people to wear one.
