Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are here!  I too am just lazing around, sleeping in the sun, snapping at a fly now and then, and not being very creative at all.
But, I have been spending the last three months trying to de clutter my studio areas.  While doing this, I found two logo canvas tote bags.  I hate carrying around a tote with someone's logo on it so I decided to camo the logos so it would not be embarrassing to use these bags.  Embarrassing bags or not my bag!  Sorry, couldn't resist that.

First, I masked off the area I would paint.
Then, using a handy bird shape stencil sprayed with spray adhesive slapped down almost randomly, I painted the back ground in blues with some green thrown in for interest.  (I heart green, you know.)
I cut out some wings from a book page that was laying about.  Lots of things are laying about as I sort and organize and I have a tendency to just go with the flow and use what is most handy.  I like the wing with the up-side-down face, don't you? Stuck them on with some matte medium, along with the other accidental pieces.  The little sayings are from a found vintage childs book...

Now, I think they will go to the sewing area for some free motion stitching and lace and buttons and such.  And lastly, possibly some beads and hand stitching with nice thick strands of embroidery floss.
Yeah, they are getting almost usable...

Hope you are having lovely dog days of summer too!

Facebook-Adding Color Plus New Faces

The thingy behind her head was a magazine picture I cut out and pasted there at some time in the past.

Blond hair is not east to do with colored pencils.

Red hair is easier.  She needs some blending.

The back ground was made using some kind of mesh for a stencil, I think.  Her eyes will be reworked at some future time, lol.  That eye shadow is just way too much!

For some reason, the oval I pre painted seemed to call for a bit of a side view.  I think I will do a bit more of pre painting the pages.  I also think I might add some stamp images on the backgrounds of these faces.  Face book is so fun to play with!

A New Toy and An Emerging Personality

My new toy=flipvideo camera. Yeah!  It has been a pain trying to figure out how to use and post but fun!  The doll is the one from the last post-she was laying on a towel.  Now you can see what she looks like.  She "became" because I had a question in my mind about a technique a friend posted in our sketchbook group.  She is taking an online "prims" class and one of the steps was to paint the doll all black.  I want to see what effect this would have in the over all looks of the dolls.  I am not a doll maker but this wonderment caused me to give it a try... to see for myself what the black would add to it.  I hate to say this, but I still do not know!  lol.  But, I thought I would show you how far the doll has progressed since that last photo, and it gave me a chance to try out posting a video!  I am just so proud of myself, ha ha!

A Blog Challenge

This is a response to a "blog challenge" from the leader of 14 Secrets, Lani, based on this website:  http://www.lizlamoreux.com/
We are to ( and you can too on your blog if you want to play) answer nine questions with art or photography.  This is my efforts:

                                                                       Who are you?

What do you love about where you live?

What might your perfect afternoon look like?

If you had an hour alone in your studio/creative space, what would you do?

Right now, what are some of your favorite things?

What foods nourish your soul?

When you simply need to take a breath and reground yourself, what do you do?

How do you nurture your creative dreams?

Does your heart have a secret wish you want to share?

So, now, you know all about me... post a link in comments if you want me to know about you!

Marie RR

Here is a spread and an extra page my friend Sox sent me for the Marie RR.  The theme I worked on this time is Marie's closet.

My favorite flavor of cake! lol

Left side of spread... Marie's eyes are twinkling!

Left side of spread.... a flip book full of Marie fashions.  I have not played around with cards or books that flip, fold, or pop up, but this was a rather fun little project.  The clothes are mounted on some flip pages behind a closet door. I goofed tho, and the flip door and clothes open to the right and it seems to me it should open to the left.  But, it works, so it is okay.  I found this little project rather fun and interesting, a must try again sort of thing.  The flip pages actually work really easy, surprised me!

Another Layer

I worked on this face in my facebook, adding some fleshy color and another layer to her hair with colored pencils.  I am not sure I  like but better than just the sketch.  I like this as it is just mostly playing to see what happens and I learn a bit about how to do it better.

I rather like the misty look of the background and her dress.  I am trying to decide if I should bring out the poem by retracing it or not, and if I should do something to enhancre the background.
