Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are here!  I too am just lazing around, sleeping in the sun, snapping at a fly now and then, and not being very creative at all.
But, I have been spending the last three months trying to de clutter my studio areas.  While doing this, I found two logo canvas tote bags.  I hate carrying around a tote with someone's logo on it so I decided to camo the logos so it would not be embarrassing to use these bags.  Embarrassing bags or not my bag!  Sorry, couldn't resist that.

First, I masked off the area I would paint.
Then, using a handy bird shape stencil sprayed with spray adhesive slapped down almost randomly, I painted the back ground in blues with some green thrown in for interest.  (I heart green, you know.)
I cut out some wings from a book page that was laying about.  Lots of things are laying about as I sort and organize and I have a tendency to just go with the flow and use what is most handy.  I like the wing with the up-side-down face, don't you? Stuck them on with some matte medium, along with the other accidental pieces.  The little sayings are from a found vintage childs book...

Now, I think they will go to the sewing area for some free motion stitching and lace and buttons and such.  And lastly, possibly some beads and hand stitching with nice thick strands of embroidery floss.
Yeah, they are getting almost usable...

Hope you are having lovely dog days of summer too!

Great way to camo those bags!! Love your bird. Summer is the time for just lazing around--I've spent the last four afternoons sitting in a lounge chair on my porch, just listening to the breeze ruffling the leaves and the birds singing. It's good for the soul!!
